RSIC Mechanical Portfolio Update
August 2005
A small rise of 1.3% this month compared to the All Share’s 1.8% so we slightly underperformed the market.
No major rises or falls this month. McAlpine, Lambert Howarth and Wagon were all up about 6% though.
SportingBet, McAlpine, Hunting, Carclo & Alumasc all set new highs.
SportingBet flirted with its stop loss level during the month and indeed closed just below it one night but had risen back above the stop loss early the next morning and so wasn’t sold. Given that it then set a new high this was a good piece of fortune! It is now back to only just above the (now slightly higher) stop loss of 363.14p – current price is 366p.
McAlpine reaches its anniversary this month and, like SportingBet, it has achieved its 50% profit target and is above its stop loss level. It will therefore only be sold if it subsequently falls below 349.55p (current price is 387.75p, its high to date).
As a result of the above there are no scheduled transactions this month. However if SportingBet should close below its stop loss level on or before Wednesday then it should be immediately sold and replaced with Charter on Thursday. If it closes below the stop loss after that then it should be sold but will not be replaced until next month. Far less likely, McAlpine might fall below its stop loss by Wednesday in which case it should be sold and replaced with Wyndeham Press Group.
